Very sad. When Orquesta Akokan assembled for their second album in Cuba, they worked at the newer Egrem facility in Miramar and I went down to document it. I have tons of photos that were never really utilized by the label that I want to share in a future Substack. They recently recorded album #4, but this time it was in California.
Thanks for reading and commenting Jake. I hope that making people aware of it here will help in some way, and at the very least I'm determined to keep the history alive.
This is a shocking state of affairs. What can be done to turn it around?
Mark, thanks for the important and inspirational work you are doing at the Music Venue Trust! And for sharing this news.
Your book couldn't be more important now! Thanks for helping keep a lot of these important pieces of music history alive.
Thank you Stanley - I always appreciate you support!

Hi Jacob, thanks for your comment. Yes, I think that Orquesta Akokan was one of the last projects of that busy period of cultural exchange.
I'm glad that you got to have that experience!
Is the latest album yet to be released?
I think they just finished recording it per social media posts, so the release will be forthcoming with Daptone.
So sad to read this, but thank you for documenting it. Really hope something can be done
