Some months back, when I had just started my Substack, I wrote a short post about the soundtrack to the documentary Omar Sosa’s 88 Well-Tuned Drums. I’m reposting it today because the documentary, directed by Søren Sørensen is now available for rental or purchase on Amazon. The film about the revered Cuban pianist won a bunch of awards when it played the festival circuit in 2022. Just in time for spring, and in a time of need, Sosa will bring his spirit of renewal and musical message of strength on tour in the U.S. At the end of this month and in April he has dates in California and a concert in Denver.

Sosa’s music has always been for me, as for many, a bridge over troubled waters, and to use another corny but appropriate phrase, life affirming.
Below is the little meditation that I wrote about the music on the soundtrack album, and links to listen. Enjoy!

Sometimes we just need someone to hold our hand through the forest. This week, Omar Sosa’s music will be holding mine.
His latest on vinyl, Omar Sosa’s 88 Well-Tuned Drums, is the soundtrack of the documentary of the same name, directed by Søren Sørensen. (See trailer below.)
I’ve been feeling rather like his song “Angustia con Tumbao.”
But “Sunrise” is a balancing balm.
“Toridanzón” doesn’t fail to lift my spirits. OK, I’m just going to dance.
Here’s the full album, with information to order the record on vinyl:
