Buena Vista Social Club Musical (and Cuba on Record) on CBS Sunday Morning.

A brief appearance.

This morning I was on CBS News Sunday Morning, briefly commenting about the Buena Vista Social Club for a segment about the new BVSC musical on Broadway.

My Cuba on Record Substack homepage also made a flashing appearance on the screen. So far that’s brought me more than 150 new subscribers in the last couple hours. And they say no one watches network TV anymore…thanks to CBS producer Reid Overdahl and the esteemed journalist Martha Teichner for this nice thing that happened to me today.

It was also a flashback in a way for for me: years ago, shortly after the original album came out, I worked on the production in Havana of a CBS 60 Minutes II segment about the Buena Vista Social Club. And of course I’ve written extensively about the music, artists, movie and phenomenon since then, in addition to all of my other Cuban music coverage. Seeing the reaction to the CBS Sunday Morning piece today, I think I’ll be writing more about the musical and its impact in the near future.
